Conference Theme:
Archaeology of Today: Theoretical and Methodological Issues (Block II) The specific objectives of the session will depend on the ideas and goals of participants. We welcome papers on, or relating to, the following general themes:

Topics:

• paradigm change and continuity in various areas of 'origins' research (examples are areas of research concerning the 'origins' of human cognition and communication, tool use, farming, social inequality, and the state);
  
• new directions in evolutionary theory
  
• views beyond a nature-culture dichotomy
  
• post-modern criticism
  
• relationships between perspectives on human nature; the factors responsible for major socio-cultural change in humanity's history; and how knowledge of the human past is possible
  
• challenges to paradigms rooted in ideal views of the Scientific Revolution, Birth of Modernity, and modern Culture's supposed triumph over Nature.
