Hi,
I'm doing an essay on the importance of symbolism in religious ritual
and I was wondering if anyone could suggest any relevant authors or
books. I'm having trouble locating anything that is really that
relevant.

Thanks,
Catherine

Catherine,

see our website. Its a whole new anthropology based on "symbolism in
religious ritual". For books see 'books on architectural anthropology'
particularly SSA. Our work is focused on what the history of religion
termed 'fetish', 'idol', 'spirithuts' 'life-trees', 'tree of cognition'
'maypoles', 'pole of fertility', 'shaman world-trees' and the like. We
documented these symbols in the centre of religious ritual cross culturally
and syn/diachronically all over the world. We maintain that man used such
symbols as structural models for the perception of the local environment,
later the whole world.

Best wishes
